Suggestions to Prepare Your Home for Showings

  • Put away all valuables and breakables including money, jewelry and
handbags, even items with sentimental value
  • Check all light bulbs to be sure they are in working order
  • Replace your furnace filter for home inspection
  • Tubs and showers should be freshly caulked
  • Keep only items used daily on the kitchen countertops
  • Remove all knives from countertops
  • Remove schedules and calendars from view
  • Remove all personal photographs to allow a buyer to visualize
    themselves in the home
  • Remove any empty hangers from closets
  • Remove items from the floor of closets and pantries to give a larger
    appearance
  • Make sure no furniture is blocking traffic flows
  • Remove window screens for added natural daylight
  • Open blinds and draperies to add extra daylight
  • Remove any area rugs (especially over carpet) to make rooms look
    larger
  • Remove snow and ice from sidewalks in the winter for safety
  • Remove all magazines and newspapers
  • It is not necessary to leave lights glowing all day
  • Remove items with family names including children’s names, bills and
    documents
  • Add soft scented room fresheners throughout (Plug-ins – nothing
    flowery)

This list of items is simply a list of suggestions that have been successful in the sale of many of our homes but are by no means a requirement for the sale of your home.
